We ended the first session this summer last Thursday, even though the Israeli team is continuing for another week with local labor. It has been a good, productive two weeks. We met some unusual challenges with the wildfire but made good progress. Most importantly, after two years without volunteers we welcomed folks from Hong Kong and the US to help uncover the city of the Apostles. A new area (F) was opened in front of the Ottoman farmhouse, where Ehud Schneider had lived for 50 years. A new half square was opened within the church to reveal a Roman floor and walls. Those digging east of the church continued to unravel the Christian history of the site as it transitioned from the Roman to Byzantine periods. We will resume in October and hope to have the eucalyptus trees removed that will allow us to begin excavating again in Areas D and E. Consider joining us as we unearth history.
