El Araj (Bethsaida-Julias) Excavation Project Season 6 (2022) Week 3 Day 1 (Sunday) - A wonderful day of excavation and discovery. We found that the "niche" in our apse east of the church was actually an opening which signals a possible bathhouse or baptistry. Kathryn worked with Achia's daughter cleaning the mosaics. Area D continues to find remarkable remains - today they uncovered a "discus lamp" which dates the 2nd-3rd centuries and represents the final period of Julias at the end of the Roman period. Julie Tucker found a Byzantine "M" coin (M represents the currency of 40).
